DOCS · GETTING STARTED
Start here.
This is the first page to read. In a few minutes it tells you what SynthOS is, what you need before you begin, and how to get from a fresh install to your first real piece of work.
SynthOS is the AI operating system for a company of one. It is a native macOS app — not a website in a window. You say what you want in plain language, and it dispatches AI agents that actually do the work: running command-line tools, driving a browser, editing your files, and creating assets — in parallel, on your Mac, with a receipt for every action. Everything those agents do files into an Obsidian-compatible knowledge vault you own, auto-linked into a live graph you can watch grow — a company brain that compounds instead of resetting every session. You bring your own AI provider key with no markup, it asks before anything risky, and everything stays local-first on a machine you control.
WHO IT’S FOR
Built for a company of one.
SynthOS is for the person who is the whole company — and wants the work of a team without hiring one.
Solo founders, independent operators, and one-person businesses are the people it’s designed around. You direct the work in plain language; the agents carry it out. No code is required — if you can describe what you want done, you can run it. The people who get the most from SynthOS are the ones who already do many jobs at once and want the routine ones to run themselves while they stay in charge of the decisions.
BEFORE YOU START
What you’ll need.
Three things, and you’re ready. Nothing else to install, no servers to run.
A Mac that can run it
SynthOS is a native macOS app for macOS 15 (Sequoia) or later on Apple silicon — an M-series Mac. It is not available for Intel Macs or other operating systems, and there is no web version. The agents run locally on this machine.
Your own AI provider key
You bring your own key from an AI provider, and the model bill stays between you and that provider — no markup. Your key is stored locally on your Mac; SynthOS uses it to run the agents and never resells your tokens.
A SynthOS account
You sign in only to sync your license and manage your plan — not to send your work to a server. The vault, the graph, and the agents all live on your machine; the account is the thin layer that knows which plan you’re on.
THE PATH
From download to your first run.
Three steps. You bring an AI provider key; SynthOS does the rest on your Mac.
INSTALL
Download for macOS
Get the native app for macOS 15 or later on Apple silicon and open it. Sign in to your SynthOS account so your plan and license are in sync — that’s the only thing the sign-in is for.
Not a web wrapper. The app and its agents run on your Mac.
ADD YOUR KEY
Bring your own provider key
Paste your own AI provider key into SynthOS. It’s stored locally on your Mac and powers every agent. There is no token markup — your usage is billed by your provider, directly to you.
Your key never leaves the machine to be resold.
GIVE IT A JOB
Say what you want
Ask in plain language. SynthOS picks the tools and does the real work — and every step shows up as a card you can read, never a black box. It asks before anything risky, and what it produces files into your vault as it goes.
Start small: one task you’d normally do by hand. Watch the receipts.
HOW TO READ THESE DOCS
A map of every section.
Read top to bottom the first time. After that, jump to whatever you need — each section stands on its own.
Note — SynthOS is in early access, so the deepest per-topic pages still live inside the app’s own built-in guide. The sections above are the documentation that exists on the web today; this index grows as the product opens up.
STATUS
Early access, in the open.
SynthOS is a private beta. Here’s what that means for you, and where to reach a human.
What it means. The core is real and working — chat dispatches agents, the vault and live graph are yours, and the guardrails ship in every tier. But the product is still young: expect rough edges, features that are still landing, and docs that are filling in. Things change quickly, and your early use shapes what gets built next.
What stays true. It runs locally on your Mac, you bring your own key, and it asks before anything risky — those don’t change between releases. Roadmap features are labeled as such wherever we mention them, so you always know what works today versus what’s coming.
Where to get help. The app ships with its own guide for everything you do inside it. For anything else — a bug, a question, or a request — email [email protected] and a real person reads it.
READY
Install it, then give it your first job.
The fastest way to understand SynthOS is to watch it work once. Bring a key, ask for something real, and read the receipts.
